How do I know my counsellor is qualified and experienced?
Choosing a counsellor who is a registered or accredited member of BACP ensures they meet the high standards set by this respected organisation. Membership guarantees that your counsellor engages in regular clinical supervision, completes the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, and is fully insured to practice. You are welcome to ask for further details or contact BACP directly for verification.
How confidential are the sessions?
Confidentiality is central to counselling, and everything is discussed in full during your first session. As a registered member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I work in line with their Ethical Framework to ensure your privacy and safety at all times. All client information is handled in accordance with GDPR. Therapists are fully registered, insured, and maintain confidential records securely, following the data protection policies and standards set by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
How will I know if counselling is right for me?
This is a common question. We offer a free 20-minute consultation by phone to help you get a sense of whether counselling feels right. Counselling provides a safe, non-judgmental space to discuss concerns, worries, or challenges with a professional who is experienced, sensitive, and supportive.
How will I know how many sessions I need?
The number of sessions varies for each individual. During the assessment session, we explore your needs and discuss a suggested plan. Typically, an initial contract of six sessions is set, usually weekly or sometimes fortnightly. Progress is reviewed regularly, and sessions can be extended, reduced, or closed according to your needs. You are always in control of your therapy, and a closing session is recommended if you decide to finish.
How long are the sessions, and when and where do they take place?
Sessions typically last 50 minutes and are scheduled at times that suit you. Most clients meet weekly or fortnightly, with flexibility offered to accommodate individual needs. Sessions are conducted at an agreed location or online, depending on your preference.
